Mediation Services

When parties are unable to resolve a dispute, mediation may be necessary. Mediation involves a neutral third-party, a mediator, who assists with negotiations between the parties. The main goal of all involved is for the parties to resolve their dispute and reach an agreement. If you are in need of a mediator, please call our office, (803) 775-1263 or (866) 589-8857, to make arrangements with one of our certified mediators. You may also email us at legal@bryanlaw.com and we will respond as soon as possible.

Joe McElveen completed mediator training through the South Carolina Bar’s Continuing Legal Education Division and is a certified Circuit and Probate Court mediator. Joe has been a lawyer for over fifty years, handling a wide variety of cases and trying complicated and challenging civil and criminal cases to verdict. He has handled many family law cases involving considerable assets and complex legal issues and was a fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Joe has tried cases in Federal District Court and handled a considerable number of appeals in the appellate courts of South Carolina. Currently, Joe’s main practice area is workers’ compensation claims.

In addition to a broad range of legal knowledge, Joe brings to the table over forty years of working with the public, as a civic leader, member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, and mayor of the City of Sumter. He is the past president of the Municipal Association of South Carolina and served as a chair of task forces and committees for the United States Conference of Mayors. While his political experience has introduced him to areas of knowledge he may not have otherwise known, it has also allowed Joe to preside over and, in effect, mediate many very controversial disputes.
